12 Meters 5-Axis Plate & Pipe Water Jet Cutting Machine
Large Water Jet Cutting Machine`s Features
The metal plate and pipe cuting integrated machine is the first advanced CNC water jet cutting equipment in China to integrate the function of metal pipe andsheet metal regular cutting. it is designed for efficient and high-precision surface irregular cutting processing of metal plates and pipeswithout generoting heat afected zones and thermal stress, greatly improving the application performance of metal materials, especiallyenhancing the stablity and safety of metal material accessories in mid to high end applications, and the mechanical properties of highend metal materials in high-strength load applications!
Water Jet cutting had developed for dozens of years now, and now there are 5-axis CNC water jet cutters for choice in different industry applications. Water jet cutting is use more and more as it provide endless imaginations for the household and industry used. The engineers can cut/manufacturing more complex products flexiable production. And bring down the manufacturing cost with rapid production.
Water jet cuting mothod is a new material processing innovation and hight produtivity. With water jet cutting method, product designers had another choice/leads to designs new creative products with more ecomnoic manufacturing way. Like ceramic medallion for floor, wall, cooking and dinner table, wheel hub, and lots of other products.
On the other hand, water jet cutting is a cold manufacturing process. Which means there is no localised stress build-up that may occur when castings cool. It`s a good choice for manufacturing the products could not to instead of the manufacture which could not accept hot manufacturing deforms or charaters changes. Water jet cutting is very good for the Aerospace and Automotive parts manufacturing which could accept the cracks and fracture.
Before picking up a right water jet cutting machine, we may need to find out the answers with below questions.
1. What kinds of material you are going to cutting?
2. What is the size and thickness the material?
3. What level of precision do you need?
4. You need 2D or 3D cutting (Though 3D is mostly recommended) ?
5. What kinds of work will be completed on the water jet cutter?
6. What is the space available for the new machine?
7. What is the production capacity you expect to have ?
8. Consider the after-sales service you expect?
1. Normally we have some machines in stock, please feel free to contact us for update if you need it urgently.
2. The production time is about 45 working days since order confirmed.
An Abrasive Water Jet (AWJ) Cutting Machine is an industrial tool that uses a high-velocity stream of water mixed with fine abrasive particles to cut through hard materials. It is a cold cutting process, meaning it does not generate heat during operation, which distinguishes it from laser, plasma, or flame cutting.
Think of it as a highly precise, supersonic sandblaster. The water acts as the carrier and accelerator, while the abrasive particles (usually garnet) do the actual cutting through microscopic erosion.
The process can be broken down into a few key stages:
1. Ultra-High Pressure Pump:
The heart of the system is an intensifier pump. It takes in regular tap water, filters it, and then uses hydraulic power to pressurize it to extreme levels, typically between 60,000 to 90,000 Pounds per Square Inch (PSI) or even higher.
2. The Jewel Orifice:
This ultra-high-pressure water is then forced through a tiny hole in a jewel (usually made of sapphire or diamond), known as the orifice. This constriction transforms the high-pressure water into a very coherent, high-velocity stream traveling at speeds up to 900 meters per second (over Mach 2).
3. The Mixing Chamber and Focusing Tube:
The pure water jet then enters a mixing chamber (also called the cutting head). Here, a vacuum effect draws abrasive particles from a separate hopper into the stream. The mixture of water and abrasive is then focused through a narrow, hard-walled tube (typically made of tungsten carbide), called the focusing tube or mixing tube. This tube aligns the abrasive particles into a solid, cutting stream.
4. The Cutting Action:
This supersonic stream of water and abrasive exits the nozzle and strikes the workpiece. The sharp, hard abrasive particles microscopically erode the material, effectively cutting it. The stream is so fine and focused that it produces a very narrow cut width, known as the “kerf.”
5. Motion Control:
The entire cutting head is mounted on a sophisticated Computer Numerical Control (CNC) gantry system. This allows the jet to be moved with extreme precision along the X, Y, and Z axes based on a digital design file (like a CAD drawing), enabling it to produce highly complex and intricate shapes.
1. No Heat-Affected Zone (HAZ): This is the #1 benefit. Since it’s a cold process, it does not alter the material’s structure. There is no warping, hardening, or change in temper, which is critical for metals and prevents cracking in materials like glass.
2. Extreme Versatility: As listed above, one machine can process almost any material, making it ideal for job shops and factories with diverse needs.
3. High Precision and Flexibility: Capable of cutting complex shapes, sharp corners, and intricate details directly from a CAD file. It is not limited to straight lines like a saw.
4. No Mechanical Stresses: The cutting force exerted on the workpiece is very low, preventing deformation or delamination, especially in composites and thin metals.
5. Environmentally Friendly: The process produces no hazardous fumes or dust. The primary waste is a slurry of water and used abrasive, which is easier to dispose of than coolant or metal chips from machining.
6. Ability to Cut Thick Materials: Can easily cut materials over 6 inches (150 mm) thick and, in some cases, up to 12 inches (300 mm) or more.
The Abrasive Water Jet Cutting Machine is a uniquely versatile and powerful fabrication tool. Its ability to perform cold cuts on virtually any material without altering its intrinsic properties makes it an indispensable technology in modern manufacturing, serving industries from aerospace and automotive to art and architecture. While it has a higher operational cost than some thermal methods, its unparalleled flexibility and precision for complex, heat-sensitive applications ensure its critical role on the factory floor.
